Comment: Mr Brainwash is probably one of the most talked about artists of today.
Mr Brainwash is the moniker of French filmmaker Thierry Guetta. In 2009 he designed the cover of Madonna's greatest hits compilation album entitled, "Celebration", in 2011 he posted artwork around Los Angeles as part of the official promotion for the Chili Peppers "I'm with You" album, and in 2012 he colaborated with superstar DJ David Guetta which saw him directing Guetta's video "Metropolis".
A maverick of the artworld, Mr Brainwash has a trademark positive message and playful spirit that's taken the world by storm. Fellow artist Banksy commented, "Mr Brainwash is a force of nature, he’s a phenomenon. And I don’t mean that in a good way.".
Mr Brainwash, in this silkscreen, has combined Jean Baptiste Mordino’s photo for the cover of Bazaar Magazine from 1990, with Madonna’s 1987 "Who’s That Girl" era portrait by Alberto Tolot, and then topped it off with his characteristic colourful hand finishing. Mr Brainwash also used this combined image of Madonna in the artwork he created for her 2009 album Celebration.
